Logo courtesy of the good folks at Baseball historyIn late breaking news, any one trying to communicate with me via the San Diego Fiber Folk email list on Yahoo groups will be unsuccessful as I have unsubbed and have no plans to rejoin. And btw, I'd been no mail for a long time, so don't assume that I have email contact for you if you've not recently emailed me directly.
Meanwhile, I'll keep knitting and with five different knitting events on my schedule
in any given month, I think one less less list and possibly one less event will help me find time to write my book.
Whistle Stop event got a write up in the 2 January UT (dumb write up in many ways) but the net result was almost wall to wall knitters and wannabe knitters on the 4th. It really was wild. I happily got roped into joining Lisa and helping her with a Kim Hargreaves (not brilliantly written) pattern instruction. Some of my brought to the fold flock popped round for quick sanity checks and please fix it moments. Some minor irks but a good time overall.
I wore the much admired (and rightly so) short row diamond cardi/jacket and worked on the finally corrected elephant hat reproduction. The original can finally go back home. It has been tough to keep it safe from potential pachyderm poachers. The last thing I designed that was this insanely popular has got to be Señor Frog.
I will need to find a few more
mindless projects because I get more knitting done walking there and back than I do at the bar.
We had 9 new knitters
yesterday (which was also the lovely Jen's b-day) so those with a bit more knitting experience helped the novices. We also had some knitters without their knitting who just happened
to be at that particular bar during the event.
Other web page changes I added some short row strip knitting snaps and discussion to the Vests portion of the FOs.
In the short kine stuff section, I added a not brilliant snap of my display at my work art/craft show. It does show the pink clad floral
wire female torso, the shoes, the mardi gras pink nylon twine mask and yes, the gorgeous blue thing is Lapis Luxury aka my stocking stitch
short rowed triangular shawl with the lace edging knit at the same time as the body. And there's a bit
of a guess which of these things don't involve short rows. More photos coming.
BTW, duh moment of the week -- finally looked at Entrelac. Pish, it's just short rows.
Final Rugby World Cup note England, who were favoured to win, won. But the quite young Wales side looked very good so maybe a return to Welsh Rugby glory in in future.
Yes, fire was within 10 miles or so of me, cats and stash. I got very little knitting done while indoors and at home for several days. With the smoke in the air and the conserve energy/less than great power, my dark little apartment was darker than usual which does not make for good knitting. Still have made some progress on items since the weather decided to help the fire containment effort.
Then there's the Rugby World Cup -- FoxSportWorld is graciously playing all matches, however they are playing them for-bloody-ever after the results. Case in point, they will be playing the New Zealand - Wales match on 6 November -- two days before the All Blacks meet the Springboks in the quarter finals and three days before Wales meets England. The Shake's is playing footie as per usual. Wish I knew of a pub/public place giving me the Rugby World Cup, Guinness and crowd option in San Diego proper.
Trying to put some proposals together for classes. I think the lazy lace has promise as does scribble lace, wire and a few other sneak in "difficult" concepts before people know the stuff is supposed to be hard.
Then there's the Rugby World Cup.
Also added some scribble lace projects that I left off my on the needles list. I'm trying hard to put
a really interesting range of knitting for the art show.
Heading out to Knitaway in the Rockies -- driving solo. Should be packed, organised, and
ready to roll. Am just glad to have delivered the keys to the cat sitters. Shoes will be waiting
for me in Colorado.
Although it is too hot to think about finishing (as in sewing up) my total for the Afghans for Afghans
project looks like five garments. They will be sewn up and off to Ann in SF before the deadline.
Also in the planning stages, a section devoted to short rows and a sort of lunatic's guide to knitted polygons
First pick up game of knitting -- 6:30pm Thursday, 27 March at
Urban Grind
New yahoo group in support of that effort is SB_San_Diego Stitch & Bitch, Sports and Boys, Silly Bitches -- whatever you will. All I ask is that political and religious beliefs remain private and we stick to the stuff that we have in common.
I will probably also orphan San Diego 3 day or relegate it to the obligatory me area while perhaps revising
the once planned travel tales section. Yes my long winded trip home to England/Wales but this time with pics
and isn't that a thrill? Or not. I've also been doing some San Diego local (and my 'hood in
particular) stuff that could be fun.
Meetup link added to the events area. Also updated info on the shops and such -- days of
operation and hours.
Directed links to Common Threads' on-line how to knit stuff, the cybersock lessons and
the like still to come. As well as adding stuff on the machine knitting guild somewhere.
I'd like to do the mapquest thing for shops and set group knitting event locations.
As usual, perhaps not pretty but at least the links work Planning to add a link to meetup.com and some other links -- like directed links to Common Threads' on-line how to knit stuff, the cybersock lessons and the like.
Also need to get some new pics up of quite a few FOs -- several shawls, a vest or two, an elephant hat -- typical stuff. And I am thinking about upgrading the service (bye bye banners & popups), getting another domain name and maybe even blogging
Okay, this isn't pretty but at least the links work
Don't forget, SB_San_Diego
Stitch & Bitch, Sports and Boys, Silly Bitches is still a small but growing private email list.

I did manage to squeeze in a visit
to the new LYS in San Marcos before Stitches West. Has potential and, if nothing else, bridges a big gap in the knitting geography of the county.
Stitches West Market spending? Less than $30 Some things tempted but for the most part the stuff I might care to design with can either be had locally or can be sent to me rather than me transporting. I did manage one (of two left on Sunday) skein of the Chester Farms cotton/silk/wool blend to test and see whether I think it would be a good seller in San Diego.
Whether due to the boom in knitting, the fact that this is the last one at this venue or what, the market was pretty much perpetually packed.
My shoes spent most of the event in the Interweave Press booth it made sense to me -- leave it to me to find a way to do show and tell without having to show up. My little wire torso, lapis, the cardi and short rowed scarf got plenty of attention too.
13 February 2004
As of 7 Feb, San Diego has a new LYS in San Marcos. I hope to get over there before Stitches West but I've spread the word and updated shops table and pdf to reflect this bit of good news.
Going to Stitches West for the Market? Print off a
2-buck admission discount card courtesy of White Lies Designs. Be sure to check out booth #414 especially if you are an ample knitter, KBTH or Knit Flame member
7 January 2004
Updating knitting events table and pdf again. Somehow while I wasn't looking (see what happens when you read mail lists on line) Gloriamarie went from SBC DSL to roadrunner (aka time warner cable).
8 December 2003
Will be updating knitting events table and pdf to follow
as Carolyn & Jen have decided to do the Whistlestop knit and swill twice a month. So, Guinness,
walks and knitting needles will be happening for me on the 1st & 3rd Sundays.
3 November 2003
Added Links to both San Diego Transit and North County Transit in the San Diego Links section of the page. Helpful hint to visitors without cars -- both the Black Sheep and Common Threads are within walking distance of the Encinitas Station which is on the Coaster line (North County Transit). Trolley Line yarn shop choice is pretty much limited to Needleworks in Mission Valley and that's a longer hike. Armed with these links and the addresses of the yarns shops you should be able to map out whether a yarn crawl is feasible via transit.
24 October 2003
Finally got the pdfs done earlier this week. Shifted around the reality of what is and isn't on the needles. I should have some new snaps up in the not too. Still have work deadlines looming so that will take a back seat.
9 October 2003
Added Two Sisters & Ewe's business hours and
the group knitting event they host.
Will generate new pdfs tomorrow -- the pdfs are unlikely to stay on one page unless
I drop font sizes or the amount of info. Don't really want to do either so I think I'll optomise layout.
8 October 2003
Added two new yarn shops -- so new pdf and new table. I've uploaded a bunch of files that illustrate the short row tutorial I've been playing with. I will write the html and text up once I get shot of the books that pay the bills -- should happen soon.
BTW the "Jayne Mansfield" example of creating fullness in the bust area caused quite a stir at the WhistleStop Knit-In. That gathering continues to be one of my faves even if I am dealing with 2nd hand smoke -- there's just a good energy. I created a somewhat less generously endowed version with pink floral wire and size 5mm needles. Need to get some snaps of that for the short row tutorial too. Next week during the art show, I'll finish off the roll of film on all my little strange sculptures.
8 August 2003
Moved some things around. The link to Ruth's
blog has been replaced/moved. Pine paper shoe stuff now lives under Projects with snaps of
the shoes I submitted to IK. Some discussion there as well.
14 July 2003
Moved link to Ruth's blog into the To be improved
upon Lace section in Projects. Shoes still in Colorado.15July 2003
I'll be sending up some snaps of the literally on the needles
scarf I'm finally doing for the DAE auction. Eventually it will be part of the "all short rows all the time" section.
14 July 2003
Moved link to Ruth's blog into the To be improved
upon Lace section in Projects. Shoes still in Colorado.23 June 2003
Officially Summer. I'm doing the Afghans for Afghans thing again one sweater
done one almost there. Should be able to knock out a few more garments between now and
the deadline.
16 May 2003
Removed one knitting event from the listings at the request of the contact person. The group is at a comfortable membership level but may have grown its venue so additional publicity is not on just now.24 March 2003
New LYS coming to La Mesa in May -- updated shop page and shop pdf. Restructuring took back burner as I did the Stitches West thing, the TKGA in Burbank thing, designed a couple of garments and sent my first submission package off to a knitting mag -- eek! 8 February 2003
Some additional tweaking. I uploaded some images
this week but want to restructure things a bit -- mostly under projects. I mean, I suppose if
I put up a snap of my dreidel pattern knit with Noro ganpi abaka tape, I should probably put
the silly pattern up, or at least a link to the knitlist gift page.
17 January 2003
I did a little tweaking today. More to come.
