A Panda in Progress

My Rose Parade float decorating co-worker Irene's request for this year's Hanukah present is a Panda hat. After shifting my little grey cells from centre out medallions and short rows to simpler construction.

I swatched it in crap acrylic, drew the facial features and charted them during an excursion to OC.

While working pal Shane's booth at TKGA Burbank, I enjoyed the the hell that is intarsia in Sirdar's Snowflake Chunky Yarn and knitted up what is now the back of the hat.

I did end up including short rows to shape the front portion of the hat and the pom poms got replaced with (unshown) knitted poly-filled fuzzy/fluffy balls.

I would do a number of things differently were I to do another not the least of which would have been to cast on with a yarn with more substance to make the picked up stitches for the icord feel more secured to the piece. I also probably wouldn't do the up and over one piece with two seams construction. But I have no huge plans to revisit until well after the first of the year.
